Heutiful Hair Steamer Review

Cost: $125
Rating: 7.9/10

Last year I brought a Heutiful Hair Steamer. I did not want to do a detailed review because I wanted to use this product a few times. The steamer comes in 3 parts and they are very easy to put together. In this heutiful steamer video I show you how. This hair steamer is very nice, it has a clean look and is very efficient for... the top of your head. Unless you are really sitting under it which is super hot it potentially misses a good amount of your hair. If you have long hair, pin your hair up that way it can be under the steamer.

  • The first time I used it I must have barely sat underneath it because the back and sides of my hair was dry.
  • The second time I used it, I must have put too much conditioner on because it did not feel different than a shower cap at all.
  • The third time I used it I randomly steamed my super dry hair. This time my whole head was wet and moisturized.
  • The forth time i used it I sat all the way up so it can get to the back of my head and my sides, it worked, but not as well as the top of my head. It also hurts sitting all the way up. Steam can burn and the accumulation of the hood dripped in the middle of my head. OUCH! This time however the parts that have been getting throughly steamed the whole time... FELT GREAT!!! My hair was moisturized and I could tell my hair strands had moisture. When I used my leave in my hair smoothed down nicely. However, the back of my hair and sides was still not as "wet" or "steamed" as they should have been.
  • Maybe my head is too big... -_-
  • The next time I try this I'm going to open the vent ducts at the top and stick my head all the way in the steamer, or perhaps I will sit backwards and bend over, I don't know. I would like the rest of this great feeling all over my head.

Conclusion!!!
If you have a small head and money to blow, treat yourself. But if not, do not buy it. This product is a luxury and not a necessity. I personally love it and I do not mind moving myself around to fit it, but if you don't want to work with it and wait for results, then don't buy it. If you have dry hair, and want to try something new, go for it. I think this will work well with protein treatments because they are so drying.

Kimmaytube Leave In

Since I have been doing my "frequently washing" regimen, I changed some of the products I use to leave in moisture in my hair. One of my now staple products is the Kimmaytube (easy do it yourself) Leave In Conditioner. It has a ph of 4 and will cause the cuticles on your hair strands to close. You put this on wet hair and it will lock in that moisture. I have noticed when "smoothing" (rubbing it in from root to tip in a downward direction so your cuticles won't be lifted) this in my hair, my hair has felt very smooth. I then seal that in my with my shea butter and oil. My hair is moisturized for a long time after. I still moisturize daily! Give this a try!!!

2 tbs Aloe Vera Leaf Juice
2 tbs Kinky Curly Curling Custard
2tsp Jojoba Oil (Or oil of your choice. I like to add this and a small amount of emu oil and 5 drops of rosemaryto mines)

My Hair Washing Regimen

These plaits are the same ones I wash, condition,
and protect in. The ones in  front are smaller
because I wear them out with my kufis.

Since I have read a few books on black hair or afro textured hair, and since I have hit the natural hair cross road, I have modified my hair regimen. Now I love Cathy Howse and Chicoro and what they had to say about black hair. I took what they say and my own experiences and came up with my own hair washing regimen.

  • Wash- I use Kinky Curly come clean shampoo. I am going to start alternating shampoo because using one shampoo will leave behind build up. I wash my hair while it is in 20 plaits.
  • Deep Condition- I use Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque. Sometimes I mix Palmer's Protein packs, jojoba oil, emu oil, or some other thing to enhance my deep condition. No, I no longer use instant conditioners. I smooth the conditioner on my hair in a downward direction and I braid the plaits back. I either put on a shower cap or I sit under my hair steamer. I alternate.
  • Moisturize- I use Kimmaytube's Leave-In on my wet hair. I put my whipped shea butter over top of that. While doing this I smooth my hair in a downward direction to lay down my cuticles and I plait the plaits back. For moisture during the week I randomly hair steam.
  • Protect- Since I plait my hair back it is already protected. When ever I wear hats of Kufis I wear a satian bonnet or scarf under it.
My hair washing regimen.

 My Regimen Scheduled

This calender is my hair washing regimen. I wash and dc my hair every 3 days. Yes that is about 121 times a year. I know that is a lot but I have the time and I want to try something different. The pink squares is when wash and dc. The pink and orange is where I add protein to my dc. I am trying to get my hair to the protein moisture balance that is critical for hair retention. I am always on the hunt for new shampoos and dc's to try. If you have any suggestions let me know.

The Best Thing Ever

So after I took out the tracks, I had to undo the cornrolls. When I took them out my hair felt like desert storm. It was dry, brittle, ashy, cracking, it sounded like sandpaper when I rubbed it. I had NO curl patter and my scalp was flaking (which NEVER HAPPENS) and my scalp was so tender. I don't know what I was thinking but I did something on impulse.

  1. I rubbed this oil mixture I made in my dry crusty hair.
  2. After that I took some Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque and mixed it with Trader Joe's Nourish Spa conditioner. (I put glops and glops of that on my hair.)
  3. I then put a shower cap on my head and tied it up with TWO scarves. I left this on for 24hours.
When I took the cap off of my head after those 24 hours and rinsed my hair it was GREAT! My hair was moisturized and my curl pattern snapped back! It felt beautiful. I could have cried. I then washed my hair twice with the Trader Joe's Moisturizing Shampoo. I put oil on my hair while I was washing it. I conditioned and put more oil in my head. My hair felt amazing. But since I am on my 1 year straight of protective styles, I am getting the back cornrolled and the front 2 strand twisted. I can wear Koofies with little twists out or pull it all back. I love options.
